This page contains examples of my work from my time as a self-employed web developer.
Inca Café Bar
This website was built as a favour for a friend. It uses a Perl Catalyst back-end running as a persistent FastCGI process under nginx. Catalyst was overkill for this site, but it gave me a chance to experiment with CatalystX::Routes. The front-end is based on the Bootstrap framework. All the artwork was created with Inkscape, and the Google Web Fonts service provides the Amaranth font.
Cheshire Hunt Holiday Cottages
This site was built using the Perl Catalyst framework, with DBIx::Class as an interface to a MySQL database. The front-end was hand-coded from scratch. Dynamic content is in Markdown format, and uses SmartyPants to add an extra layer of polish. The site uses @font-face to deliver the open source Fontin and Delicious fonts.
Cuticle Moon was the short-lived hobby-as-a-business created by my girlfriend. The site had a custom content management system built upon Catalyst, DBIx::Class and MySQL. Markdown and SmartyPants were used to format dynamic content. The logo and artwork were painstakingly created with a combination of Inkscape and GIMP.
The Vale Inn
The Vale Inn site was one of my first websites built on a custom framework that I developed in PHP. The database-driven site has a full content management system. It contains an ever expanding database of ales, news and events. Food menus can also be created with the CMS, and these are translated automatically into printable PDF documents. The front-end was all hand-coded from scratch.
